No. A properly installed 5-inch system can work well when the roof area, run length, outlets, and downspouts are suitable. A 6-inch system may be the better choice for a larger roof, steep sections, long runs, concentrated valley flow, or a history of overflow that cannot be corrected with a smaller layout change.
The property address or neighbourhood does not decide the size. A larger trough will not correct poor slope, a blocked outlet, too few downspouts, or a discharge route that cannot move water away from the house. In some cases, adding an outlet or relocating a downspout is more useful than increasing every run to 6 inches.
