Which part of the roof feeds the overflowing run?
A gutter’s length does not show how much roof water reaches it. A valley or an upper roof can concentrate flow into a short section. We look at those connections when discussing gutter size, corners and outlet positions.

Do more outlets mean more visible downspouts?
Sometimes an additional outlet is useful, but its location needs to work at ground level too. We discuss both the drainage route and how the downspout sits against the wall. Doors, windows, walkways, landscaping and access can limit the options.
If you want to move a downspout for appearance, show us the preferred position before the layout is agreed. Moving the pipe may also change the required gutter slope or create a longer discharge route. We explain those effects rather than treating the visible pipe as a separate decoration.

Check the existing connection before disconnecting it
Vaughan’s downspout-disconnection guidance describes directing water above ground, away from foundations, without harming neighbouring property or discharging directly onto a sidewalk.
The same City page identifies streets where homes may connect to a clean-water collection system. For those connections, the City says disconnection is not required. Check the address and connection type before deciding to remove or reuse a pipe. Ask the City about an uncertain connection; do not assume every buried downspout has the same purpose.

What should stay, and what needs replacement?
Assess the gutter before adding guards

Include fascia work where the gutter needs support

Repair a component when the surrounding work remains sound

Coordinate the visible finishes without replacing everything
You can ask about colour and trim connections while deciding which components to keep. If the existing soffit remains serviceable, gutter replacement does not automatically require replacing it. Where soffit installation is part of the job, we identify the panels and related roof-edge work in the estimate.
