Eavestrough Repair

Repair is usually most practical when the system is still structurally sound and the problem is isolated. If the gutters are badly sagging, undersized, patched in several places, or pulling away from the fascia, we will explain why replacement may be the better long-term option.

Eavestrough Replacement
Replacement may be appropriate when several runs leak, sag or hold standing water and a targeted repair will not address the cause. Age alone does not determine whether gutters need replacement. Replacement gives us a chance to correct slope, outlet placement, downspout capacity, and drainage layout at the same time.

What Can a Full Eavestrough Replacement Include?
Your written quote identifies the included work and any optional upgrades. Depending on the property, the scope may include:

- 5″ or 6″ K-style sizing based on roof layout and drainage needs

5″ vs 6″ Eavestroughs
Most GTA homes use either 5″ or 6″ K-style aluminum eavestroughs. The right choice depends on roof size, roof pitch, number of valleys, length of gutter runs, and where the downspouts can be placed.
5″ K-Style Eavestroughs
5″ K-style is a common choice for many bungalows, townhomes, semi-detached homes, and smaller detached homes. It is cost-effective, clean-looking, and suitable when the roof area and downspout layout are not overloaded.
6″ K-Style Eavestroughs
We may recommend 6″ K-style eavestroughs for larger roof areas or concentrated runoff. However, recurring overflow can also come from blocked outlets, poor slope or too few downspouts; increasing the gutter size alone may not solve it. They are commonly paired with 3×4″ downspouts to move more water away from the roof edge.

Downspouts and Drainage Matter
A new eavestrough system is only as effective as its downspout layout. Long runs with too few outlets can overflow even if the gutters are clean. During replacement, we often recommend larger outlets, additional drops, or 3×4″ downspouts when the roof volume calls for it.
We also look at where the water discharges. Downspout extensions should move water away from the foundation area where possible, without creating problems for walkways, driveways, neighbouring properties, or high-traffic areas.

Gutter Guards and Leaf Protection
Homes near mature trees often need more frequent eavestrough cleaning. Gutter guards can reduce debris buildup and lower maintenance, but they do not make a gutter system completely maintenance-free. Roof debris, seed pods, pine needles, ice, and roof design can still affect performance.

Eavestrough Repair vs Replacement

Should I choose 5″ or 6″ eavestroughs?
5″ K-style gutters suit many homes. A 6″ system may be appropriate for a larger roof area or concentrated runoff. We check the roof layout, outlets, downspouts and discharge path first, because a larger gutter alone will not fix every overflow problem.
Repair or Replacement
Can leaking eavestroughs be repaired?
Sometimes, yes. A leaking corner, loose hanger, failed sealant joint, or damaged outlet may be repairable. Full replacement is usually a better option when the system is sagging, undersized, repeatedly leaking, badly dented, or pulling away from the fascia.
