In American usage, this is usually called a gutter. **Gutter** — Another term for eavestrough. Exact colour match cannot always be guaranteed because of dye-lot changes, discontinued colours, fading, oxidation, and natural weathering. **Oil-canning** — Minor waviness visible in thin metal panels or aluminum cladding. It is a normal characteristic of sheet-metal products and is usually cosmetic rather than functional. --- ## Regional and climate terms **Ice dam** — A ridge of ice that forms near the eave edge when snow melts on a warmer roof surface and refreezes at a colder eave.
